Cadillac Roadtrip images from SC to Texas #Motorama

Here are the images from the road trip back from Carolina to Texas, along with some of the final cleanup late Monday.

Click on the thumbnails for larger versions.  These are images I tweeted along during the trip, or have not been shown.  Several gas stop pics because that is when I have time to take pics and tweet.  All images are from the iphone.

I also saw a rare Roush Mustang RS3 but didn’t think to get a picture.  The Audi S6 we drove along with for a while.  Saw a Mercury Marauder but just in passing.

The Cadillac is an excellent road car, and the trip went well.  We made good time and stayed just ahead of the rain / weather the entire trip.

Cadillac with Air — Black and Decker Air Station #motorama

Pre-roadtrip air pressure check and correction is important for fuel economy, safety, and higher speeds. My weapon of choice is the Black & Decker Air Station.

The Air Station has two features I especially like:

  1. dual power — runs off car accessory plug or a/c outlet
  2. air pressure stop / limit auto-switch

The dial on the air pressure gauge allows one to select max desired pressure. Then the pump will continue until max pressure is reached, and shut off. For cars, this makes setting all 4 tires to the same pressure, or both tires on one end to same pressure, simple.

The unit is light, but has a good capacity and works fast enough. I keep it in the spare tire compartment under the trunk, since the STS-V doesn’t use a spare.

The unit has an air pressure gauge but I use a hand gauge to check. It has met my needs and I recommend it to others.

Model I have is the ASI300: http://www.amazon.com/Black-Decker-ASI300-Station-Inflator/dp/B000IE0YIQ

Cadillac Power? Yes Please #Motorama #GMChat

What makes a perfect engine for a Cadillac? Some may have forgotten, but Cadillac has a legacy of producing powerful and fast automobiles — that is why they became a favorite with Gangsters.

One school of thought is Cadillac engines should be

  • Cadillac only or exclusive
  • Minimal noise / vibration / harshness
  • Maximum power
  • Prefer V8 or more cylinders
  • Another school of thought is Cadillac should just stick to the latest LSX V8, which assures after market speed parts and support.

Some buyers no longer want big engines / V8s because they are perceived (regardless of EPA rating) as less economic.

A prime example is the current debate between the new LT1 6.2L V8 at 450 hp vs the new LF3 3.6L TTV6 at 420 hp. The V8 is more powerful, the V6 is likely to be smoother and more refined. They may share similar gas mileage in similar weight cars.

I feel Cadillac should offer the most advanced engines available to Cadillac at the time — which will usually also mean the most powerful and economic. I like the use of turbo and supercharged small, high tech engines if they bring the power needed. I also would like the LT1 V8 in a Cadillac, and consider it an advanced engine as well. I prefer non-exclusive engines because they offer more speed parts and tuning options.

What engine do you want in your next Cadillac?
