Cadillac ATS-V LF4 HP Tuners

I did an initial read on my 2016 Cadillac ATS-V Coupe with HP Tuners. I asked it to read the ECM, TCM, and CCM.

Although the ATS-V was hot from running errands and sitting, I then ran a driving log file to see how it is doing.

I had not used my Hptuners in an extended period, so the interface needed to update, then I had to get the new MPVI application key to get it to read the car at all.

Max observed stock Turbo Psi

The ATS-V is showing a max boost, measured as Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) – Barometric pressure, of 15.02 psi. The Boost / Vacuum signal at that point was 15.9 psi. I am unclear why these two values are not the same, although it may reflect the amount of vacuum at the intake of the turbos at that moment. The LF4 has an advertised max turbo pressure of 18 psi, so after the intercoolers lose 2-3 psi one might expect 15-16 psi as observed.

Around 2 degrees of KR at higher RPM needs more fuel or less spark

I see I have 1-2 degrees of knock retard at high pressure / high RPM. I believe the engine would prefer to be a bit richer there or perhaps back down some spark. I see the commanded spark ramps up there.

The ATS-V has an IAT1, which appears to be an average of intake temps at the MAFs? and IAT2 which is after the intercooler. Then Manifold Air Temp is air inside the intake manifold. (Please correct me if I am wrong). As I drive along the IATs and the MAT all fall, as cool air get into the system. Odd to see MAT go DOWN as the car accelerates, but good sign that the intercooled air is lower than the manifold wall temps.

Overall glad I got everything to work, and lots of things to study.

Cadillac ATS-V air filter replacement

Since my 2016 Cadillac ATS-V is aging out of the Dealer Maintenance period I decided to refresh my OEM air filters.

LF4 Air filter box

The LF4 in the ATS-V has dual air filters feeding the twin turbos. The ‘left’ or driver’s side turbo is immediately in from the filter box. The right or passenger side turbo is across on the right side of the engine.

AC Delco A3202C x 2 needed

I ordered new filters from Rockauto; they run $28 each as I recall. I ordered a new oil filter at the same time to share in the shipping cost.

The filters themselves are cannister type pleated paper filters, and were made by Mahle for AC/Delco. There is one filter for each turbo inlet tract.

6 screws and lift up the top, and Dirty Filters ready to come out. Push on the sides of the ‘rod’ to retract the tabs on the filter ‘rod’ to release each filter.
Dirty Filters after removal. Lots of leaves and debris demonstrate the intake has a pretty open access to the filter (!)
Clean new filters in place.
This is the view looking forward from the air box to the front of the engine — the opening that the filters breath through. Air can flow through the front grill more or less directly to the air box.

It took only a few minutes to change the filters, then put the 6 screws back snugly in place. My impression is the engineers did everything they could think of to mitigate the need or benefit of an aftermarket intake.

I note that K&N says their intake adds 34 hp, which suggests the stock setup is not ideal, or there are other factors in play. See K&N’s dyno here:

New 360 Visualizer Lets You Customize your 2021 Cadillac Escalade

  • Able to customize and share, all new tool amplifies the customer experience
  • Customers able to sign up for more info on 2021 Escalade

DETROIT – With no less than eight interior color and trim options, multiple 22-inch wheel options and the new 38-inch curved OLED display, the next-generation 2021 Escalade — available late 2020 — is all about customization. Customers can now customize a 2021 Escalade using a new 3D visualizer.

The Cadillac Escalade Visualizer is an immersive 360-degree digital experience with views from every angle of the new Escalade, both inside and out. In additional to the four wheel choices, nine available color options and three interior trim combinations on the premium Luxury Platinum trim, recently-improved functionality also allows customers to experience the exterior lighting choreography with a new nighttime environment. Consumers can also jump into the interior and explore the view from the first- or second-row seats.

Using computer-generated imagery, the tool is designed to be mobile-friendly and intuitive.

“The visualizer allows customers to engage with the 2021 Escalade right from their phone or desktop, before the vehicle is available in showrooms,” said Robert Benbow, Cadillac Escalade marketing manager. “And it will only get better over time.”

As the vehicle receives updates, the visualizer will as well. It will update throughout the lifecycle of the vehicle, as new wheels, colors and more become available.

After customizing their Escalade, customers have the option to share images on their social channels or via email. Customers are also able to use the visualizer to sign up to stay up to date on all aspects of the 2021 Cadillac Escalade.

I think my selection would be Red Tintcoat with light interior:
