The 1958 Fleetwood had the cast iron 365 cubic inch V8.  Only 12,900 of the 58M-60 were sold in 1958.  The vehicle has a 133″ wheelbase, and stretches to just over 225″ long.
Wikipedia notes:
1958 saw extensive design changes, even though the cars were entirely revamped for ’57. Horsepower from the 365 cu in (5.98 L) engine was now at 310 hp (230 kW). Sparkling “studs” decorated the wide new grille, while the rubber-tipped bumper guards were moved further out towards the edges of the car – leaving a lower, wider look. Four headlights, a style that appeared on last year’s Eldorado Brougham, were adopted for all Cadillacs, including the $6,117 Sixty Special. Full fender skirts practically hid the rear wheels from sight, and the massive ribbed stainless steel trim occupied the lower half of the rear fender. Small vent windows were added to Sixty Special’s rear doors, and newly available power door locks were optional. Sales for the 4,930 pound (shipping weight) car slid to 12,900 units – nearly half of last year’s production.
I hope this classic Cadillac goes to someone who will appreciate and enjoy it.

Cadillac January 2011 US Sales up 49%

SRX and CTS sales continued to anchor Cadillac Line sales for January 2011.  DTS sales were up over 2010, but continue to fade awaiting the arrival of the new XTS replacement.  Escalade sales were up for all three models.

The discontinued XLR convertible managed -1 deliveries, which I suppose means one that had been reported as sold was not after all.

Continued good showing for CTS and SRX.  If Cadillac can have a good release on the XTS and bring the ATS to market on schedule sales should blossom.

Are Station Wagons Cool Again? – Driver’s Seat – WSJ

Jonathan Welsh at The Wall Street Journal is driving a Cadillac CTS-V  Wagon this week and has a short piece on it here:

Are Station Wagons Cool Again? – Driver’s Seat – WSJ.

The idea of a powerful, great handling station wagon strikes a lot of people as “having your cake and eating it too”.

All automobile designs are compromises:

  • Want to go fast?  Get more power and/or less weight.
  • Want to carry a lot of stuff?  Get more room (and so more weight) at the expense of better performance
  • Want a car that handles great?  Get a tight suspension at the expense of a smooth ride; in some cases forego the better powerplant for better balance and lighter weight

So what does the Cadillac CTS-V Wagon offer?

  • Huge power — it has a supercharged 6.2L V8 making 556hp.
  • Great storage capacity / carrying capacity — it is a station wagon with the inherent easy to pack easy to pull out space
  • Great handling — it has the V-Series magnetic suspension that makes for great handling AND smooth ride together at last

Where’s the compromise?  Well, cash, since the CTS-V Wagon costs over US$60K.  But if you can budget for an amazing vehicle, the Cadillac CTS-V Wagon has all the cards.  And among people who know cars, Respect.
