I always enjoy seeing the secret co-star of Donald Trump’s The Celebrity Apprentice — the chauffeur driven Cadillac STS.  It  pulls up each week of the show to take the week’s loser(s) away in style.

I wonder if next season we will see the Cadillac XTS in this role?

Will we see this great rear seating each week on next Celebrity Apprentice?

More to the point, it would be great to have a new Cadillac model as a marketing project for The Celebrity Apprentice teams.  Cadillac has a terrific legacy and history but plenty of marketing challenges in reaching buyers.  Getting this sort of outside input can often drive internal innovation and thinking.

A full line analysis and marketing plan would be very ambitious, but could be fruitful as well.  I have the occasional impression that with the range of Cadillac models it is difficult to market everything at once.  We see TV or press for the Cadillac CTS, but not the Escalade line lately.  We never saw much XLR press while that model was being made, which may help explain why it is not made any more.  Finding a way to keep the entire Cadillac line in focus — from CTS, now XTS, SRX, and all three Escalade variants — would help Cadillac tremendously.

Then Donald Trump, Cadillac Fan, will have even more good news to comment on.

 

 

Cadillac XTS arrives in North Texas

The Cadillac XTS’s are on the showroom and in the lot at Crest Cadillac in Plano, Texas.  Darin Partin was nice enough to email me that they had arrived, and Crest Cadillac Sales Manager Danny Gomez was on hand to point them out.  Thanks Guys!

The Cadillac XTS is a brand new Cadillac, just out this week.  It is an excellent mix of proven components.  The Cadillac XTS brings the new Cadillac User Experience, or CUE interior with haptic feedback.  That means that not only does the center console react as easily as using a tablet touch screen, you actually get feedback through the screen as if you had touched a physical button instead of an area of a touch screen.  Very nice touch.

The Cadillac XTS looks good in person.  There is lots of room —  I had plenty of leg room in the front or the back at 6’2″.  It looks very good in person.

The trunk is cavernous, with plenty of room for luggage, groceries for a month, or small countries.

The only nit I could see to pick at is the rear brake calipers.  The front brake calipers are beautiful and artistic and say Cadillac by Brembo.  The rear brake calipers are this sort of rough finished clamshell.


I expected rear Brembo clipers as found on my STS-V. I did note that other models of non-V Cadillacs also have this sort of plain rear caliper. So not an XTS exclusive fault.

Summary

The Cadillac XTS looks like a very good Cadillac to me.   It is the perfect car for people who want a full size yet economical, high-tech luxury car.

Cadillac ATS brakes how quickly?

The Cadillac ATS brakes should be great — proven Brembo brakes and light weight make for good braking dynamics.  Cadillac issued a nice release featuring the Brembo performance braking system on the upcoming Cadillac ATS.  Good, makes sense to keep the chatter going until the ATS gets to the showrooms.

When equipped with Brembo brakes, ATS’s estimated stopping distance from 60-0 mph of 129 feet [sic] is among the best in the class

But the photo caption of the article mentions:  “When equipped with Brembo brakes, ATS’s estimated stopping distance from 60-0 mph of 129 feet is among the best in the class,”

It is? No.  The Cadillac ATS brakes take 109 feet to stop from 60-0, just like the BMW 335i.

Looks like the press release needs an update; the Cadillac ATS brakes are better than advertised.  Go figure.

Brembo brakes are preferred because they are multi-piston caliper brakes.  What that means is you can enjoy more even and predictable braking.  It also means that the brakes can be more effective — leading to shorter braking distances.

Why do the Cadillac ATS brakes come from Brembo?

Brembo brakes were first used on the Cadillac V-Series, or high performance products.  In fact, the Current Cadillac XTS and Cadillac ATS have a lot of V series characteristics — performance suspensions, performance brakes.   So although an XTS-V is not planned, the premium model of XTS brings everything a traditional V series would except the power plant.

Now that the Cadillac ATS brakes, bring on that V-power

Cadillac does plan to bring out an ATS-V, perhaps as soon as next year.  The ATS-V hopefully will bring the performance power and we’ll have another race car in the V-stable.
