Inviting Cadillac Clubs to Caddyinfo

Early this year the Cadillac Club  of Sweden joined us on Caddyinfo.com as a Cadillac club participant.   The club has a separate subforum on the Caddyinfo forum; the Cadillac Club Sweden subforum.

I think this has worked out very well for everyone.  A lot of the posts in the CCS section are of course in Swedish, but Bengt Olsson from the club acts as a moderator for the club subforum.    The forum allows the club the advantages of a dedicated forum without the overhead and headaches.  Caddyinfo benefits from the Club participating because it brings more Cadillac lovers to our forum.

If your Cadillac club would like a subforum on Caddyinfo.com please feel free to contact me to discuss.

Understanding Cadillac news coverage

Lately there have been several news / rumor articles on various general car sites that Cadillac may come out with a CTS Coupe V Series model (Likely), or perhaps a CTS Sport Wagon V Series model (unlikely). Certainly it is easy to see that if the new LSA 6.2L Supercharged V8 fits in the CTS-V sedan, the same wonder-powertrain can fit into the CTS Sport Wagon or CTS Coupe.

But the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V is NOT just a CTS with a big engine option.  It has specific suspension components, performance brakes, different hubs and wheels, and a variety of other performance related bits.  Could Cadillac do all in and make a CTS Sport Wagon -V?  Sure.  Does it make sense to do all that engineering work so they can see a few hundred of them?  Nope.

Now, the CTS Coupe V Series may be a different beast, as it may be the PREFERRED platform for the V-series driver.

So I predict that we may see a V-series Coupe, but not a V-series Sport Wagon.  I would be the first one to be happy for Sport Wagon fans if Cadillac does manage to produce a V-series version of every Cadillac model including the Sport Wagon.  But I will be surprised if they do.

I loved that car because it…

What makes a really great car great? When I think of the cars I have owned that I really loved, they were not perfect. They were not the fastest cars of their times, or the best handlers, or the most luxurious cars available. So what was it that made them great to me?

First, I think a ‘fun’ car needs to at least have a sun roof, if not a removable / targa type roof or be a convertible.

Most of the ‘fun’ cars I have owned were manual transmission. I am not sure that this is mandatory, but I think it may be. Although modern automatics are almost psychic about when to shift, nothing give you right now acceleration and control like a manual transmission. Also, modern selectable gear automatics may give similar control; not sure yet.

Finally, it strikes me that the cars I have loved had little else in common. They may have been reliable or not, they may have been expensive or not. They were however each unique in their own way, and long-lasting in that I *wanted* to continue driving them for a long time because I enjoyed driving them. And when it comes to cars, that’s what it is all about.
