I’ll have the keyless access in my Cadillac please

Tucked into the Premium package of the Cadillac SRX and Cadillac CTS or available as a separate feature of the Luxury or Performance models is the Luxury Level 2 option package.  Here is the example from the 2010 CTS order book:

Luxury Level Two Package, includes (KB6) heated/ventilated front seats, (AM9) split-folding rear seat, (N38) power rake wheel and telescopic steering column, (ATH) Keyless Access-Passive Entry, (BTV) Keyless Access-Remote Start (not available with [MN6] 6-speed manual transmission), (BTM) Keyless Access-Keyless Ignition, (K14) Automatic cabin odor filtration and (UD7) Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist

I had seen “Keyless Access” as a feature of the SRX Premium, but that simply confused me.    All Cadillacs tend to be keyless access right?  They all have remotes to lock or unlock the doors, etc.

What Cadillac is featuring with the Keyless Access Options is the idea that you never have to get the key fob out of your pocket or purse, it just has to be with you.

  • Keyless Access – Passive Entry: allows you to simply walk up to the car and open the door.  If it senses you have the key with you, the door unlocks.
  • Keyless Access – Keyless Ignition: press the brake pedal, and push a button to start the Cadillac.  If it senses you have the key with you, the car starts.

These may sound to you like “so what”? options, but let me assure you that in person in the Cadillac, they are very cool.  It is fun to simply walk up to the Cadillac, and have it recognize you and open the doors.  It is fun to push a button to start the car, and have it crank right up.  Of course the gauges and digital displays on the instrument panels of current Cadillacs are busy at startup putting on a digital display, so it all becomes entertainment.

Keyless Access is a desirable feature, and one I will shop for in my next Cadillac.

2010 Cadillac SRX Test Drive — Luxuriant Space, Efficiently Used

I have a 2010 Cadillac SRX 3.0L Premium Crossover from Crest Cadillac in Plano for a weekend test drive review.  You can find all of my Test Drive reports tagged Test Drive.  All articles regarding the SRX can be found in the SRX category.

The SRX is a larger Crossover inside than you might judge from the outside.  It gets great gas mileage and is a very good size for getting around or parking; it is about the perfect size for a daily driver.  It has plentiful seating room for 4 or 5, and has good space behind the rear seats for groceries, baggage, whatever.

The interior styling is well done, and consistent with the exterior styling.   My Wife and I both found the seats comfortable.  My Brother had good space in the rear seats, and this makes a good vehicle to carry 4 or 5 adults.

The steering wheel has tilt and telescope, and the gas/brake pedals are adjustable for height.

2010 Cadillac SRX rear seats offer lots of room

The rear seats are very comfortable.  The test car also has the rear entertainment system, which adds video screens on the back of each front seat.  The Premium model has 3-zone climate control, so that the rear passengers get their own climate control options.

Here is a view down from the open Ultraview (double size) sunroof, to give an impression of the plentiful head room:

I also shot a couple of pictures with me in the frame (which I try to avoid!) to show fit.  With the driver’s seat adjusted as I normally would without regard for head room, I have about a hand-span of room left in the SRX, so 3-4 inches of extra space.  I am 6’2″ tall, but since proportions differ by individual please use as a general suggestion that there is lots of head room.

Shoulder space — I have to completely extend my elbow to reach the passenger seat.  So again, I would say there is a lot of shoulder space in the SRX.  We have got to get better models for this type of shot!

Quick grocery trip — I know this is not a week’s worth of stuff, but you get the idea of the space:

I love the electric rear lift gate.  As in the Sport Wagon, it is selectable to 3/4 or full height.  In the SRX you can also ‘program’ it to a custom height by showing it the height you need it to open to then storing that height.  Luckily I have no physical problem opening or closing but certainly I prefer opening the rear gate from the remote, or from the door, and simply pressing a button again to have it glide closed.

Also as in the Sport Wagon in this shot you can see the fully adjustable cargo anchor rail system in the floor of the cargo area.  Cadillac has carefully thought this vehicle out so that it has the utility you need.

One feature of the Premium Model SRX is heated and ventilated seats.

The upper right button controls seat heating, and the lower right button controls seat ventilation.  Each are selectable in 3 settings, low, medium, and high.   The small lights illuminate to show which setting is currently selected.

2010 Cadillac SRX Test Drive — Sex in the City 2

I have a 2010 Cadillac SRX 3.0L Premium Crossover from Crest Cadillac in Plano for a weekend test drive review.  You can find all of my Test Drive reports tagged Test Drive.  All articles regarding the SRX can be found in the SRX category.

Saturday night my Wife and I picked up my Brother & Sister In Law and attended Sex in the City 2 at the Gold Class Cinema in Fairview, Texas.  Gold Class Cinema is an upscale approach to dinner and a movie.  We were celebrating my Sister In Law’s birthday, and this made for a very nice evening out.

The Cadillac SRX of course was excellent for picking up another couple and enjoying a more formal evening.  It is easy access in/out, and has very good rear seat space and leg room.

The Premium Model Cadillac SRX includes a backup camera view.  Here is the view out the back of the SRX:

and this is an equivalent view from the backup camera as shown on the navigation display:

Note that this is an augmented reality display.  The light orange grid highlights the projected backup path of the SRX based on the current angle of the steering wheel.  So if I proceed to backup right now, that is where the SRX is going.  I had no problem seeing out the back of the SRX, but I love the backup camera aid, the integration of the projected path of the vehicle, the whole approach.  This is a very nice execution.

The 2010 Cadillac SRX Premium includes as standard equipment Adaptive Forward Lighting.  This feature causes the headlights to ‘steer’ along with the turn of the front wheels, lighting your intended path of travel.  This is a very desirable feature, as it makes it quite a bit easier to see at night, and lets you see potential obstacles faster.  This is another small detail feature of the best Cadillacs that is almost a footnote in the ordering guide or the window sticker but makes a real difference in the enjoyment of the vehicle.

Here is a quick video I grabbed of the center dash digital display options / choices:

The test SRX has the 3.0L direct injection V6 engine, making 265 hp in the SRX configuration.  I have enjoyed this engine in the CTS Sport Sedan, and in the CTS Sport Wagon, but I was wondering if it would finally be over-challenged in the heavier SRX.  Frankly, I continue to feel that the 3L is a very nice power plant.   Certainly the 3L SRX is not a race car, but it has plenty of power and gets along quite well.  I have no problem recommending this vehicle to you as tested; I have thoroughly enjoyed it.
