Share the Feast #NTFB

I am blessed again this Holiday Season to be invited to social dinners, parties, etc.  I would like to re-mention a concept that struck me last year, which is a way to share the blessings we receive.

I had a lovely Holiday Social dinner at Bailey’s Prime Plus in Fairview, Texas.  The atmosphere was elegant, the Staff was delightful and attentive, and the food was delicious.  Of course the point of the dinner was to socialize and the venue was perfect for a nice private gathering.

With Share the Feast in mind, although the dinner at Bailey’s was free to me, I estimate what the same meal would have cost me on a walk-in basis, then donate that amount to the charity of my choice.  In this case I chose the North Texas Food Bank as they are in the business of stretching donated dollars to feed as many hungry people as possible.

On a normal day, NTFB can provide 4 healthy meals for hungry people for each $1 received.  Right now due to donation challenges they can stretch that to 8 meals.    So that nice dinner out or holiday social can turn into hundreds of meals for hungry people.  Everybody wins.

Appreciating the Master Craftsman

Chuck Jordan, former head of Cadillac Design, passed away this month.  Mr Jordan contributed to several important Cadillac designs including the 1959 Cadillac Eldorado and the 1992 Cadillac Seville & STS.  He retired from General Motors in 1992.

1992 Cadillac Seville STS

A 1992 STS was my first contemporary Cadillac, and was a terrific automobile.  That design, which continued with some modifications through 1997, still looks classic to me these 18 years since they first hit the street.

I never met Mr. Jordan, but became aware of him for his role in the book “All Corvettes are Red” by James Schefter.  Nonetheless, I have been a fan of his design work and leadership and I feel it is important to mark the passing of a Master of the craft of Automobile Design.   The current Cadillac designs are possible and popular because of the design of those 1992 models.  Thank you Chuck Jordan.

Cadillac sales up 16% per S/D November 2010

Cadillac sales rose 21% year over year or 16% when per sales day is considered in Nov 2010 over Nov 2009.  When only retail sales and not lower margin rental fleet sales are considered then sales were up a significant 46%!

CTS sales slipped to just under 4K for the month, down somewhat from October sales.  The SRX continues to please at just over 4K sold in the month.

The DTS sales are just holding on, and are ripe for the arrival of the upcoming new design XTS sedan.
