2010 Cadillac SRX Test Drive — Sex in the City 2

I have a 2010 Cadillac SRX 3.0L Premium Crossover from Crest Cadillac in Plano for a weekend test drive review.  You can find all of my Test Drive reports tagged Test Drive.  All articles regarding the SRX can be found in the SRX category.

Saturday night my Wife and I picked up my Brother & Sister In Law and attended Sex in the City 2 at the Gold Class Cinema in Fairview, Texas.  Gold Class Cinema is an upscale approach to dinner and a movie.  We were celebrating my Sister In Law’s birthday, and this made for a very nice evening out.

The Cadillac SRX of course was excellent for picking up another couple and enjoying a more formal evening.  It is easy access in/out, and has very good rear seat space and leg room.

The Premium Model Cadillac SRX includes a backup camera view.  Here is the view out the back of the SRX:

and this is an equivalent view from the backup camera as shown on the navigation display:

Note that this is an augmented reality display.  The light orange grid highlights the projected backup path of the SRX based on the current angle of the steering wheel.  So if I proceed to backup right now, that is where the SRX is going.  I had no problem seeing out the back of the SRX, but I love the backup camera aid, the integration of the projected path of the vehicle, the whole approach.  This is a very nice execution.

The 2010 Cadillac SRX Premium includes as standard equipment Adaptive Forward Lighting.  This feature causes the headlights to ‘steer’ along with the turn of the front wheels, lighting your intended path of travel.  This is a very desirable feature, as it makes it quite a bit easier to see at night, and lets you see potential obstacles faster.  This is another small detail feature of the best Cadillacs that is almost a footnote in the ordering guide or the window sticker but makes a real difference in the enjoyment of the vehicle.

Here is a quick video I grabbed of the center dash digital display options / choices:

The test SRX has the 3.0L direct injection V6 engine, making 265 hp in the SRX configuration.  I have enjoyed this engine in the CTS Sport Sedan, and in the CTS Sport Wagon, but I was wondering if it would finally be over-challenged in the heavier SRX.  Frankly, I continue to feel that the 3L is a very nice power plant.   Certainly the 3L SRX is not a race car, but it has plenty of power and gets along quite well.  I have no problem recommending this vehicle to you as tested; I have thoroughly enjoyed it.

My Host for this test drive is Crest Cadillac of Plano, Texas.  They are located at 2701 North Central Expressway, Plano, Texas.  You can contact them by phone Toll-free at 1-866-697-9144 or locally at (972)578-7511, or on Twitter or Facebook .  Please let them know you read about the SRX here on CaddyInfo!

2010 Cadillac SRX Test Drive — The Pickup

I have a 2010 Cadillac SRX 3.0L Premium Crossover from Crest Cadillac in Plano for a weekend test drive review.  This is a 2nd Generation SRX, with the direct injection 3L V6 engine.  It has Cadillac’s Premium features, so this model is fully loaded.  Tony Griggs of Crest had it ready for pickup and went over the vehicle features with me.  Our friend Delivery Specialist Greg Vetrano was busy briefing Buyers on their new Cadillacs!

This model has as options (in addition to the Premium Model standard features):

  • Crystal Red Tintcoat premium paint $995
  • 20″ chrome Tech Aluminum wheels, which I find MUCH more attractive than the standard wheels $250
  • Entertainment Sytems, Rear Seat Dual-Player DVD with wireless Headphones and Remote. This is an in-dash DVD with rear-seat mounted flip-up 8″ diagonal screens, two 2-channel wireless headphones, auxiliary audio/video jacks, remote game plug-in, and DivX playback capability. $1,295

Here are Cadillac’s images of the wheels side by side; you decide:

Optional Wheels: 20" Chrome Tech Aluminum

Standard Premium Wheels: 20" Premium Painted Cast Aluminum Wheels

Here is a closeup of the wheel on the SRX:

The level of integration in the driver’s central video screen is impressive.  Here is an image of the navigation system video being repeated for easy review by the driver:

I am charmed to see the MPG analog gauge in the SRX.  These can actually be quite fun, to see how long you can keep the MPG maxed.  Of course the SRX also has a digital instant MPG and average MPG in the trip information, but the gauge is fun.

I will be posting articles about the 2010 Cadillac SRX through the weekend; please stay tuned!

1951 Cadillac Fleetwood An Interview with an aging Film Star

I visited Crest Cadillac to look at a 1951 Cadillac Fleetwood today.  Like visiting an aging Film Star, this Cadillac frankly still has it going on.

1951 Cadillac Fleetwood

The power plant is the famous Cadillac 331 cubic inch OHV V8. This engine first arrived in 1949 and was a breakthrough engine for its time. In 1951 trim it produced160 hp gross, and perhaps 133 hp net.  The Fleetwood could go over 100 mph new.

Cadillac Identification Plate

This example appears to be a Series 60 Special Fleetwood.   The body tag matches and it has the 8 vertical chrome louvers ahead of the rear wheels that mark the Sixty Special Fleetwood.  Compared to the Series 61, the Series 60 Special Fleetwood had a 4″ longer wheelbase, at 130 inches, and looked longer and lower.  The body of this Cadillac was made by Fleetwood the coach builder.

It is hard to describe in pictures, but the body of this Cadillac is truly enchanting.  It suggests luxury, opulence, the urgency of the jet age and restrained power all at once.

Air conditioning was still an add-on at this point of automobile development, not yet integrated into the dash.  That’s a “Fleetwood” script emblem on the dash above the AM radio.  That emblem served as a constant reminder to the lucky Owner that he or she was piloting one of the finest automobiles available.

It is frustrating to capture styling details alone and not have a way to suggest the majesty and art of the sum of the parts.  This Cadillac has very consistent themes, and I felt a great community with those owners in 1951 when they set eyes on this car on Cadillac showrooms and got out their checkbooks.

This Cadillac is for sale. For information about this car please contact Crest Cadillac of Plano, Texas.  They are located at 2701 North Central Expressway, Plano, Texas.  You can contact them by phone Toll-free at 1-866-697-9144 or locally at (972)578-7511, or on Twitter or Facebook

Please let them know you saw the Fleetwood here on CaddyInfo, so they call me to visit other models!
