Product Review: Race Technology AP-22

Comparison of modification before/after runs:

For the next two test runs, I did what is commonly called a "MAF screen delete".  The Mass airflow sensor on my test vehicle has a honeycomb screen leading into the sensor.  This has the theoretical effect of smoothening the airflow as it enters the MAF, and improving the accuracy of the unit.  It also has the effect of lowering the airflow through the unit.  Here are the test runs 19 and 20:

"After" Run 19
Tilt .001
Trigger 0.29G
No MAF Screen
Start Speed 0.0mph
mph    s    g  ft   hp
10.0 0.90 0.51   6  57
20.0 1.82 0.44  26 100
30.0 2.84 0.45  64 154
40.0 3.87 0.41 117 191
50.0 5.17 0.33 203 195
60.0 6.75 0.28 330 207

Pk Power: 49.0mph 5.02s 192ft 223hp
Peak G: 16.2mph 1.45s 16ft 0.52g

"After" Run 20
Tilt .001
Trigger 0.29G
No MAF Screen

Start Speed 0.0mph
mph    s    g   ft  hp
10.0 0.90 0.51   6  57
20.0 1.82 0.44  26 100
30.0 2.83 0.45  63 156
40.0 3.86 0.41 117 191
50.0 5.22 0.30 207 182
60.0 6.83 0.28 337 204

Pk Power: 62.4mph 7.23s 373ft 214hp
Peak G: 15.9mph 1.42s 16ft 0.52g

The three previous runs 15-17, each had a HP at 40 mph of 184, 188, and 186 hp, average 186 hp.  All were done on the same day as runs 19 & 20.  Both of the "after" test runs had HP at 40 mph of 191 hp.  Therefore one might conclude that the MAF screen delete is worth 5 HP on this vehicle, and about 0.10 seconds reduction in 0-60 time based on an average "before" of 6.90 seconds (discarding run 17), and an average "after" of 6.79 seconds.

As a side note, I am shocked to find that the variance in runs made on the same basis such as Runs 19 & 20 occurs between 40 and 60 mph!  I had always previously believed that with an Automatic car, the variance between runs was in the launch, not in the run out.  Having detailed data makes a big difference in being able to understand and diagnose this type of thing.
