2008 Cadillac CTS

The 2008 Cadillac CTS is the 2nd generation of the entry-level Cadillac CTS design.  The first generation arrived in 2003, and continued through 2007.

2003-2007 Cadillac CTS

The 2003 CTS was delivered with a newly designed 3.2L of the Cadillac Catera 3L V6 engine, making 220 hp.  The Cadillac Catera was a precursor to the CTS.  Where the Catera was a version of the Holden Commodore, The CTS was a new car design based on the new GM Sigma platform.
In 2004 the new alloytec 3.6L variable valve technology (VVT) DOHC V6 arrived.  This engine produced an improved 255 hp, which made the CTS a serious sports sedan contender.   The advantage of the Sigma chassis was lighter weight with improved performance.  With the new engine and the new chassis, all the crucial elements were in place for Cadillac's new CTS.
2005-2007 were steady improvement years for the CTS.  The base engine became a 2.8L V6 version of the 3.6L VVT V6 engine.

2008 Cadillac CTS

The CTS was redesigned for 2008, appearing at the 2007 Detroit auto show.  Deliveries began in August, 2007.  The 2008 CTS uses an improved Sigma II chassis, and a wider track compared with the 2007 CTS to further improve road holding and dynamics.
The big news for 2008 though is in two areas:  a redesigned interior, and a new variant of the 3.6L engine.  The new engine uses direct injection technology to make 304hp, for a 49hp improvement over the 2007 CTS 3.6L VVT.  The base 3.6 VVT engine with conventional sequential port fuel injection continues in 2008 also, now making 263hp.  The newly redesigned interior improves over the original CTS interior by giving the CTS a more refined look, and by giving the occupant an improved impression of design flow.  Along with a new exterior design which is an evolution of the 2003-2007 CTS exterior, the new engine and interior have been recognized widely as likely to be huge sales hits.

2008 Cadillac CTS Reliability

Cadillac has been one of the automotive industry leaders in initial and 4-year reliability and customer satisfaction.  The first generation CTS was a highly reliable and high quality automobile.
The new 2nd generation CTS is a new car, but it is also an evolution which takes advantage of many well engineered and understood technologies.  The single truly new introduction is the direct injection engine, and that is also an evolution of the existing VVT 3.6L V6.  Expected reliability for the 2008 CTS is very good.  However, the powertrain also benefits from GM's current 5 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty in case there are any issues.  The bumper to bumper warranty for Cadillacs is 48 months / 50,000 miles.
