{"id":17564,"date":"2015-08-28T20:26:18","date_gmt":"2015-08-29T01:26:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/?p=17564"},"modified":"2015-08-28T20:44:26","modified_gmt":"2015-08-29T01:44:26","slug":"initial-tuning-steps-cadillac-lh2-v8-engine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/initial-tuning-steps-cadillac-lh2-v8-engine\/","title":{"rendered":"Initial Tuning Steps Cadillac LH2 V8 Engine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>First, I wanted to adjust the tune to recognize that we have E10, or gas with up to 10% ethanol.\u00a0 This gas has a lower stoichemic makeup, and an ideal ratio is 14.2:1 air:fuel instead of non-alcoholic gas at 14.7:1 air:fuel.\u00a0 The Cadillac factory tune assumes 14.7:1 fuel.\u00a0 I set the tune to 14.4:1 since we have an uncertain mix of alcohol in the fuel.<\/p>\n<p>Second &amp; Third, in our Texas heat the Cadillac is just on the border of heat retard from engine coolant temperature and intake air temp.\u00a0 I addressed each of those to move the &#8216;border&#8221; a few degrees higher and get that retard out.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll look for any sense of knock or knock retard on these runs just to be careful.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/XLR-First-Tune-Stoic-IAT-ECT-4-Comparison.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-17565\" src=\"http:\/\/caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/XLR-First-Tune-Stoic-IAT-ECT-4-Comparison-1024x623.png\" alt=\"XLR First Tune Stoic IAT ECT 4 Comparison\" width=\"584\" height=\"355\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/XLR-First-Tune-Stoic-IAT-ECT-4-Comparison-1024x623.png 1024w, http:\/\/www.caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/XLR-First-Tune-Stoic-IAT-ECT-4-Comparison-500x304.png 500w, http:\/\/www.caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/XLR-First-Tune-Stoic-IAT-ECT-4-Comparison-493x300.png 493w, http:\/\/www.caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/XLR-First-Tune-Stoic-IAT-ECT-4-Comparison.png 1634w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The two test runs with those changes appear to have lost 8 hp and 5 lb ft of torque.\u00a0 Not what I hoped.\u00a0 In this graph the red\/blue runs are from earlier today, the green\/yellow runs are from after the tuning changes.<\/p>\n<p>The stoichemic setting change had the effect of moving the XLR 0.3 richer on in AFR, which is not what it appears to want.\u00a0 The other changes allow it run a bit more timing.\u00a0 My sense is we need to keep the AFR, but I am uncertain if the Wideband O2 sensors in the XLR are auto-magically compensating for fuel quality and driving to lambda for the current fuel, then reporting that as 14.7 AFR?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/XLR-First-Tune-Calc-Before-After.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-17568\" src=\"http:\/\/caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/XLR-First-Tune-Calc-Before-After.png\" alt=\"XLR First Tune Calc Before After\" width=\"632\" height=\"791\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/XLR-First-Tune-Calc-Before-After.png 632w, http:\/\/www.caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/XLR-First-Tune-Calc-Before-After-500x626.png 500w, http:\/\/www.caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/XLR-First-Tune-Calc-Before-After-240x300.png 240w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 632px) 100vw, 632px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The calculated hp before\/after is not as dramatic as the Virtual Dyno.<\/p>\n<p>For the next tune I plan to replace Stoich at 14.7, and move PE from 1.176 to 1.148 (12.8:1).\u00a0 This will have the net effect of going the other way from baseline &#8212;
