added ~2 in the main (left) table, removed IAT timing below 122F (right), removed PE\/COT timing adders (bottom)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>However, holding all the timing on the main table is not ideal for how I would prefer for the engine to operate &#8212; tables show just the +added timing or -removed timing for the tuned vs OEM<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Here is the test for the &#8216;tuned&#8217; timing:\u00a0 we can see in scans that at 6409 RPM the STS-V is running total timing of about 21 degrees advanced at 1.05 g\/cyl.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_16597\" style=\"width: 594px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/HPtuners6409.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16597\" class=\"size-large wp-image-16597\" alt=\"HPtuners at 6409 RPM shows 21.0 degrees total advance\" src=\"http:\/\/caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/HPtuners6409-1024x718.jpg\" width=\"584\" height=\"409\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/HPtuners6409-1024x718.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/HPtuners6409-500x351.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/HPtuners6409-427x300.jpg 427w, http:\/\/www.caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/HPtuners6409.jpg 1393w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-16597\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">HPtuners at 6409 RPM shows 21.0 degrees total advance<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Looking at the Tuned tables (top ones above),<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the main table (left) has 23 degrees at 1.04 and 22 at 1.08, so likely uses ~22.75 at 1.05 g\/cyl.<\/li>\n<li>the IAT2 was 106F on that run, so the IAT advance was 0.<\/li>\n<li>the PE\/COT table is stripped in the Tuned file, so no change there.<\/li>\n<li>No knock retard (KR)<\/li>\n<li>So where is our missing timing, 22.75 from these tables vs 21 degrees observed?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There is a static retard vs rpm vs cylinder table which is unchanged from Tuned to OEM:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_16593\" style=\"width: 700px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/staticretardvsrpmvscyl.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16593\" class=\"size-full wp-image-16593\" alt=\"Static Retard vs RPM vs Cylinder (degrees of retard)\" src=\"http:\/\/caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/staticretardvsrpmvscyl.jpg\" width=\"690\" height=\"260\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/staticretardvsrpmvscyl.jpg 690w, http:\/\/www.caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/staticretardvsrpmvscyl-500x188.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-16593\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Static Retard vs RPM vs Cylinder (degrees of retard)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>which is pulling 2 degrees of retard (minus advance) from a couple of cylinders. This appears to be an as-designed adjustment to the timing by cylinder and RPM.\u00a0 The SAE total advance appears to include that 0-2 degrees retard for 23 &#8211; 2 = 21 Degrees as tuned.<\/p>\n<p>Going back to the OEM files, at 6400 RPM and 1.05 g\/cyl we will expect:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Main timing table 24.4 degrees<\/li>\n<li>IAT Table 0 degrees<\/li>\n<li>PE\/COT table 0.5 degrees<\/li>\n<li>Static Retard\u00a0 -2 degrees<\/li>\n<li>Total advance:\u00a0 24.4 main + 0 IAT + .5 PE\/COT &#8211; 2 Retard = 21.9 total<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So although the tuned file added +2 degrees of advance to the main table, in this circumstance the result was it reduced the timing slightly.\u00a0 In colder air the tuned table had also stripped the low-temp IAT advance adds, so it would lose power there.<\/p>\n<p>Next I am restoring the various advance tables to OEM calibration.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll log data running the OEM advance tables.\u00a0 Then I can look at adding a bit of timing via the IAT table as a way to proceed in a fail-safe manner.\u00a0 I also need to recalibrate my MAF to get the LTFTs back slightly negative.<\/p>\n<h2>Feedback<\/h2>\n<p>Any advice or feedback?\u00a0 Am I missing any logic or key tables in my timing thinking?<\/p>\n<p>Update:<\/p>\n<p>My initial run with the timing strategy adjust looks promising<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Rethink-Advance-comparison.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-16621\" alt=\"Rethink Advance comparison\" src=\"http:\/\/caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Rethink-Advance-comparison-1024x779.jpg\" width=\"584\" height=\"444\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Rethink-Advance-comparison-1024x779.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Rethink-Advance-comparison-500x380.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Rethink-Advance-comparison-394x300.jpg 394w, http:\/\/www.caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Rethink-Advance-comparison.jpg 1202w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>What this graph shows is a comparison of today&#8217;s run (blue) with a previous tune (red), both cold (not heat soaked) and full of fuel.\u00a0 Hotter day today, lower baro.\u00a0 Although the peak hp was higher for the previous run in red, the today&#8217;s result is 20-25 whp above the previous for much of the run.\u00a0 Today I let the transmission shift 2-3 instead of red-lining in 2, so that muted the high RPM result.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_16623\" style=\"width: 594px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/totaltiminghptuners.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16623\" class=\"size-large wp-image-16623\" alt=\"Total Timing snapshot after retuning\" src=\"http:\/\/caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/totaltiminghptuners-1024x718.jpg\" width=\"584\" height=\"409\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/totaltiminghptuners-1024x718.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/totaltiminghptuners-500x351.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/totaltiminghptuners-427x300.jpg 427w, http:\/\/www.caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/totaltiminghptuners.jpg 1393w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-16623\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Total Timing snapshot after retuning<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Total timing for the run ran 24.5 degrees of advance, with 0.1 IAT2 retard at that point.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll have to study to see why this was more than our expected 21.9 degrees.\u00a0 We were in a slightly different pressure zone &#8212;
