A second shift was added, creating or retaining 600 jobs.<\/p>\n<p>In total, the award-winning plant that opened in 2001 now has 1,643 salaried and hourly employees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe new Cadillac ATS represents an investment in Lansing and our workforce,\u201d said Tony Francavilla, Lansing regional plant manager. \u201cA successful launch needs a great process and a great product, but at the heart of it all are the people, and the care they put into each and every vehicle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The ATS expands Cadillac into the highest volume category in the luxury automotive industry. Following the initial start of production in Lansing, distribution to U.S. dealerships will begin in August. Exports to international markets will begin later this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a car with a big mission, and it\u2019s been comprehensively prepared for that mission,\u201d said Don Butler, vice president of Cadillac Marketing. \u201cThe new-from-the-ground-up ATS creates a new entryway into the Cadillac brand for luxury car drivers, and a compelling new challenger to the status quo among the top luxury sport sedans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The all-new ATS was custom-built using a new <a href=\"http:\/\/media.gm.com\/media\/us\/en\/cadillac\/news.detail.html\/content\/Pages\/news\/us\/en\/2012\/May\/0510_ats.html\">lightweight<\/a> vehicle architecture featuring advanced materials and techniques to ensure precise driving dynamics.\u00a0 ATS includes a host of exclusive advanced-tech features, including Magnetic Ride Control, the <a href=\"http:\/\/media.gm.com\/media\/us\/en\/cadillac\/news.detail.html\/content\/Pages\/news\/us\/en\/2012\/Mar\/0327_cadillac_safety.html\">Safety Alert Seat<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cadillac.com\/cadillac_cue.html\">CUE<\/a>, a new in-car user experience for connectivity and control using industry-first capacitive touch and natural voice recognition systems.<\/p>\n<p>The ATS hits the <a href=\"http:\/\/media.cadillac.com\/media\/us\/en\/cadillac\/news.detail.html\/content\/Pages\/news\/us\/en\/2012\/Jul\/0718_ats_ad.html\">airwaves<\/a> during the television broadcast of the Opening Ceremonies of the Summer Olympics on Friday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cadillac<\/strong> has been a leading luxury auto brand since 1902.
