{"id":13003,"date":"2012-06-09T11:12:15","date_gmt":"2012-06-09T16:12:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/?p=13003"},"modified":"2012-06-09T11:37:36","modified_gmt":"2012-06-09T16:37:36","slug":"cadillac-sts-v-intercooler-flow-gpm-bucket-test-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/cadillac-sts-v-intercooler-flow-gpm-bucket-test-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Cadillac STS-V Intercooler Flow GPM Bucket Test 3"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today I conducted a new flow test on the intercooler cooling system for my Cadillac STS-V.\u00a0 Previously I ran a <a title=\"Bucket test 1 and 2\" href=\"http:\/\/caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/cadillac-sts-v-intercooler-pump-bucket-test\/\">bucket test<\/a> to determine the actual flow through the intercooler cooling system.\u00a0 Since that test, the system has been modified to add an <a title=\"Inline Intercooler Tank Install\" href=\"http:\/\/caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/cadillac-sts-v-intercooler-inline-tank-install\/\">inline intercooler tank<\/a>.\u00a0 I plan to change the pump from the OEM Bosch pump to a Jabsco 80540-12 pump soon, so today&#8217;s test confirms the flow rate prior to the next mod.<\/p>\n<p>The overall purpose of this series of tests and changes is to improve intercooler cooling, which will result in lower intake air temperatures after the supercharger, and let the engine make more power.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_0020.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-13004\" title=\"IMG_0020\" src=\"http:\/\/caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_0020-1024x764.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"435\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_0020-1024x764.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_0020-500x373.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_0020-401x300.jpg 401w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To run the test I place a &#8216;from&#8217; bucket on a table, which has replaced my earlier box due to box degradation.\u00a0 The From bucket flows into the first heat exchanger.\u00a0 The To bucket is flowing out of the intercooler.\u00a0 The goal of the test method is to measure the flow as if the test were not going on &#8212; to not impact the flow.\u00a0 This is why the From bucket is in a raised place.<\/p>\n<p>Today my Son assisted me with timing and checking the test setup.\u00a0 We ran the test with the car engine on, to simulate working conditions for voltage.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_0019.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-13008\" title=\"IMG_0019\" src=\"http:\/\/caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_0019-1024x764.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"435\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_0019-1024x764.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_0019-500x373.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_0019-401x300.jpg 401w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Intercooler cooling flow Result:<\/h2>\n<p>We measured a flow of\u00a0 1 &amp; 3\/4 gallon per 30 seconds, or 3.5 gallons per minute (GPM).\u00a0 This is identical to the flow measured in the earlier test without the inline tank.\u00a0 I conclude that the inline tank presents no more resistance to flow, or that the changes in hose routing during the tank install improved flow sufficiently to offset the resistance of the tank.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Cadillac STS-V CaddyInfo Intercooler cooling bucket test 3\" width=\"584\" height=\"438\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/g4zCgxanRdc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer;
