exhaust.\u00a0 It has a resonator (17) and the dual mufflers.<\/p>\n<p>Now recall if you cut open the CTS-V muffler housing, they don&#8217;t look terrible for flow inside:<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/i69.photobucket.com\/albums\/i55\/Vettepro\/Cadillac%20Exhaust%20mod\/33ef747b.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"cadillac mufflers opened up\" src=\"http:\/\/i69.photobucket.com\/albums\/i55\/Vettepro\/Cadillac%20Exhaust%20mod\/33ef747b.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Inside the Cadillac CTS-V mufflers<\/p><\/div>\n<p>although each 90 degree turn is a 50% loss of flow as I recall.\u00a0 As we studied in a previous comparative article we think the<a title=\"308 CFM flow\" href=\"http:\/\/caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/?p=11068\"> STS-V flow is around 308 CFM<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Following along after Jaime I plan to replace the resonator with a Magnaflow True-X muffler, and the mufflers with high-flow Magnaflow performance mufflers.<\/p>\n<p>I am working with <a title=\"True Street Motorsports\" href=\"http:\/\/www.truestreetmotorsports.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">True Street Motorsports<\/a> in McKinney again, and here is our base plan:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div>1 Baseline dyno<\/div>\n<div>2 Replace STS-V exhaust resonator, stock mufflers<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"yui_3_2_0_1_1329259921827318\">Magnaflow part list:<br \/>\n(2) 14326 Magnaflow Polished Mufflers 2.5\/2.5<br \/>\n(2) 35136 Magnaflow SS Tips or similar<br \/>\n(2) 13070 60* Mandrel Bent Pipes (stainless) or similar<br \/>\n(1) 14468 Magnaflow Tru-X Muffler (used instead of stock resonator)<\/div>\n<div>3 &#8216;After&#8217; Dyno<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div>Magnaflow does make a cat-back system for the 320 hp Cadillac XLR, for which they got a 12 whp improvement.\u00a0 If that improvement scales for the STS-V we would see 18 hp improvement from the planned changes.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The Magnaflow XLR system also appears to replace the resonator with an X pipe, the connecting piping, and the mufflers with performance models.\u00a0\u00a0 The XLR has some odd in and out of the front of the muffler flow pathing, but the principle is the same.\u00a0 Likewise, the Borla system puts an X-pipe ahead of a resonator, then the dual mufflers.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div id=\"attachment_11726\" style=\"width: 652px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/cadillacXLR.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11726\" class=\"size-full wp-image-11726\" title=\"cadillacXLR\" src=\"http:\/\/caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/cadillacXLR.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"642\" height=\"493\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/cadillacXLR.jpg 642w, http:\/\/www.caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/cadillacXLR-500x383.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 642px) 100vw, 642px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-11726\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Magnaflow says the Cadillac XLR 320 hp picks up 12 whp with Magnaflow catback<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>There are multiple variables to keep up with &#8212; my last mod was the intake, and it was 100F+ in the shop and much higher in my intercooler.\u00a0 Now it is 40F in Texas, so I expect we will see a higher baseline now than the 375 whp we saw in August.\u00a0 That&#8217;s part of why we dyno then mod then dyno.\u00a0 Even with this approach we can&#8217;t control everything &#8212; the after dyno will be with the engine more heat-soaked than the before dyno &#8212; but you control what you can.<\/div>\n<h2>Goal:<\/h2>\n<div>My goal for the STS-V is to hit 410 wheel HP, which with the automatic would make it a solid 500 crank HP Cadillac.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<h2><strong>Other STS-V exhaust or muffler choices:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>Borla<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>Borla made a custom cat-back system for the STS-V which is still available.\u00a0 I love the Borla sound, but there have been some reports of drone with the system, and the need for some modified parts to be added.\u00a0 Around $1500 + installation.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>Corsa<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>Corsa makes a axle-back (dual muffler) system for the STS, but not for the STS-V.\u00a0 The STS version can be used with the STS-V, and that is what D3 does I believe.\u00a0 Around $900 + installation.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>Gibson<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>Gibson also offers an axle-back (dual muffler) system.\u00a0 It is available in stainless (preferred) or aluminized.\u00a0 It looks like a nice set of mufflers, and has gotten good sound reviews.\u00a0 Around $425 + installation.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/STS2005Flow.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11739\" title=\"STS2005Flow\" src=\"http:\/\/caddyinfo.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/STS2005Flow.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"310\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<h2>Suggestions or Comments?\u00a0 Please let me know what you think!<\/h2>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Update: I actually went with the Corsa axle-back on my STS-V.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Install article is here, and the dyno article is here. &nbsp;
