Cadillac CT6 sales on pace to surpass BMW 7-series

Tesla recently published this large luxury sales list, although it missed the CT6 which at 122″ wheelbase is a large luxury sedan:

To put the new CT6 sales in perspective: Q3 2016 July + Aug + Sep US Cadillac CT6 Sales:  827 + 1,242  + 1,343 = 3,412 units.  Since July CT6 sales were somewhat muted, the CT6 is on track to exceed 7-Series sales per quarter, and may compare well vs S-Class Sales.

  1. That’s *exactly* what popped into my head as soon as I saw Tesla’s sales comparison list. And what about the XTS? People, for whatever reason, want crossovers these days, so it’s not exactly fair to compare the Model S to large sedans. People aren’t buying the Model S because it’s a large sedan. They’re buying it because it’s pure electric and a status symbol.

What I don’t understand is how the news media doesn’t call Tesla out on claiming to sell luxury cars. While their batteries and drivetrains are groundbreaking and their cars are extremely large (simply to accommodate the battery packs they need for long range), Tesla vehicles are *not* luxurious by any stretch of the imagination. They didn’t even have mirrors in their sun visors until recently! Nobody says anything about their lack of luxury credentials. Or that their designs are getting very stale. Or that the touch screen isn’t as easy to use as physical buttons. (I could go on, but I’m sure I’m preaching to the choir.)
